Job Description

The role of a Registered Manager is the person with overall responsibility for day-to-day management of the Children’s Home and is accountable for the delivery of a high quality of service provision, incorporating care, welfare, safety and security of all children and young people in their care in order for them to achieve a secure base.  Supporting, leading and managing a team of staff who will provide protection and support the children with their physical, psychological, emotional & social development.

Responsibilities:


As the Registered Manger you will be registered with Ofsted. It will be imperative that the home you are responsible for meets the children’s home regulations and the Ofsted Quality standards and that as the manager you ensure a high level of compliance against these standards.

 

You will lead the whole staff team in ensuring a service that delivers exceptional care and support and that creates and delivers positive outcomes for the young people. You will be required to carry out a range of duties within your role. The key responsibilities are detailed below but there will be other duties consistent with the role that you may be requested to undertake by your line manager.


Duties:

  • To promote the practice of coproduction with young people, their families, other adults within the home, and other agencies, in order to meet the needs of the young people.
  • To prepare for, and attend annual reviews and meetings, and ensure actions are completed.
  • To monitor arrangements for any holidays, recreational outings and social activities with the children and young people and to ensure the implementation of related risk assessments.
  • To ensure that there are regular stimulating and meaningful activities for young people to engage in which reflect their personal interests and preferences and that these are further developed into new opportunities and experiences.
  • Ensure that the home environment is well maintained and presented, that it remains in a clean and hygienic state, and is homely, warm and personalised to the tastes and interests of the young person.
  • To ensure young people leaving the home are prepared for their adult life and that their transition happens in a way that is right for them.
  • Ensure all young people have up-to-date plans that details out all their relevant care and support needs. Ensure these are up to date, relevant and all adults are aware and follow them.
  • To positively promote young people’s inclusion and participation in their local communities and ensure they have full access to community resources in line with all members of the community.
  • To embed a culture of high aspirations and ambition for the children and young people in which young people experience positive outcomes.
  • Ensure that all aspects of a young person’s support and all aspects of the home where required have been well risk assessed and that there is clear evidence of this and adult’s understanding of them.
  • To promote positive and supportive relationships with family, which ensures they are regularly communicated with, and area supported to maintain an active involvement with their child.
  • When possible, support the young people to have time within the family home.
  • Liaise closely with all young people’s education settings so that you are aware of agreed target and learning outcomes that can be supported and developed within the home
  • To ensure that adults understand their responsibilities and implement safeguarding procedures and that you follow all safeguarding legislation and requirements.
  • Promote the health and safety of employees at work and of people supported through the implementation of health and safety polices and procedures.
  • To ensure that all adults are provided with an appropriate induction, supervision and appraisal in line with polices.



Qualifications :

  • NVQ Level 5 Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or Equivalent. (Desirable or willing to undertake)
  • Recent experience working within the residential sector at a Registered Manager level within a Children Residential Service
  • A “Good” or “Outstanding” grade within your recent OFSTED Inspections
  • Strong management skills and a passion for providing high-quality care
  • A Certified Diploma Level 3 or 4 in Residential Child Care (Children and Young Peoples Workforce) as a minimum
  • A Certified Diploma Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
  • Full UK Manual Driving Licence


Hours of work :

The Rota is designed to provide the best possible support to the young people. As a Registered Manager you will be required to work 40 hours per week Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Depending on the needs of the young people you may be required to be more flexible within your working hours whether that be working early mornings, evenings or weekends.


  • Attendance: This is a vital component as service delivery depends on this. If there are areas of concern regarding non-attendance it could ultimately lead to the instigation of capability or conduct procedures. Attending Training is also vital to deliver high standards within the home
  • On-Call:  As a Registered manager you are expected to commit to the on-call system in place to support the home.
