We are proud to offer a passionate and enthusiastic individual the opportunity to join our new children's home in Chudleigh Knighton as a Children's Residential Support Worker.

 

As a team member, you will play an intricate role in providing high-quality holistic care, helping to shape the lives of children with intellectual disabilities and or autism. As part of the team, you will support creating a loving, family-oriented home-from-home environment where our children can feel safe, supported, loved, and, importantly, have fun.

 

You will play a complete and influential role in high-quality assessment for short- or long-term support for young people aged between 8 – 18 who, at times, may present with behaviours that challenge.

 

As part of your job role, you will be directly involved in the overall growth and development of our children and young people by celebrating and promoting their uniqueness, strengths, and overall potential, and you will help increase the positive opportunities they can experience within their lives.




Duties and responsibilities:

  • Please have a good knowledge of the individual needs of the children and young people and be able to respond to them appropriately to deliver high-quality care and support that meets their physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and cultural needs as documented within their individual care plans
  • To support and encourage our children and young people to participate and benefit from various recreational and leisure activities within and outside the home. These activities must reflect their individual preferences while supporting the development of their creative, cultural, intellectual, physical, and social interests leading to personal fulfilment, including being prepared to spend time away from home on holidays and weekend camps, etc
  • To promote positive behavioural support for our children and young people helping them to become socially aware and able to develop their coping strategies at times of emotional distress, preventing the displaying of behaviours that challenge
  • Carrying out physical intervention following training received, ABCD's procedural guidance and relevant legislation If a child or young person were to display behaviours that challenge which became dangerous to others or themselves
  • To provide the children and young people with a caring and responsible role model, establishing positive relationships with the children and young people through offering unconditional regard and encouragement for their goals and aspirations, helping them to optimise their full potential
  • Delivering care that supports and promotes each child or young person to develop appropriate independent life skills that take into consideration their overall needs and ability as well as encourage the development of links with the community enhancing a child or young person's social network
  • To support the children and young people to understand and maintain a healthy lifestyle consisting of good nutrition, diet and fluid intake, which takes into consideration medical, cultural, and religious needs, as well as the administration and dispensing of children and young people's medication in line with training received and ABCD's procedural guidance and relevant legislation
  • To read, understand and administer care concerning the 9 Quality standards defined in the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 alongside ABCD's rules, policies and procedures, which guides how to respond to emergencies that may arise within the home
  • To understand the operating philosophy aims and objectives provided by ABCD, detailed within the home's Statement of Purpose. Making sure that any issues or knowledge gaps you may have regarding the home's holistic approach to the care it provides are being raised immediately with the Registered Manager
  • As part of professional development, undertake and maintain up-to-date training identified by ABCD as necessary to carry out your job role effectively, as well as obtaining the legislation requirement of level 3 Children and Young people's workforce Diploma with Social care pathway – or equivalent within two years of appointment to the role
  • To help Children and Young People achieve educational and training targets whilst supporting them through the development of study skills and attendance as appropriate at registered educational establishments
  • To support children and young people's health and well-being through the registering and attending of scheduled health appointments with doctors, dentists, opticians, dieticians, and any other practitioners as required
  • Be vigilant in observing for any concerns you have regarding the ability of the home to meet the needs of the children and young people present. Reporting all concerns, comments, or complaints, especially signs of abuse, to the Registered Manager
  • To maintain the recording systems within the home for each child or young person, ensuring accurate records, implementing care plans and the provisions of any reports required for meetings are completed. While also knowing when certain information may need to be shared and when confidentiality is required
  • To be available to cover unforeseen team shortfalls, home emergencies or any other duties that the Registered Manager considers necessary for the overall safety of the children, young people and home, which may on occasions include changes to the scheduled rota
  • Empower all children and young people facilitate and exercise active involvement in any decision-making about the care and support they receive while also acting as an advocate at meetings where the child or young person is the subject of the discussion
