Mental Health Administrator, York

Salary: £12.50 per hour

Job Description

Main Purpose :

To work as part of the multidisciplinary team, providing a clerical and supportive service to the clinical team, Mental Health Legislation and Safeguarding Manager and rehabilitation staff delivering care in an assessment and rehabilitation centre.  To ensure that the Administration of the Mental Act at the relevant service is carried out in compliance with legal requirements.


Responsibilities:

  • To provide effective, high quality and timely support to the Mental Health Legislation and Safeguarding Manager, Nursing and clinical staff.
  • Filing and maintaining of health records in accordance with record keeping policy.
  • Working with other internal and external services regarding paperwork, meetings etc.
  • Effective communication with staff and external professionals at all levels, ensuring the efficient collation and distribution of information.
  • Deal helpfully and constructively with all telephone enquiries.
  • To ensure that all MHA paperwork is legally correct.
  • To arrange Hospital Managers Hearings and tribunals, ensuring that reports are requested and sent to the appropriate people.
  • To remind the named nurse and Responsible Clinician when section 17 needs reviewing.
  • To remind the named nurse when the Section 132 rights needs to be given.
  • To assist in the completion of audits, monthly and quarterly, for Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and DoLS.
  • To ensure all T2 and T3 and S17 paperwork is completed in line with legislation.
  • To ensure that the correct documentation relating to the MHA, MCA, and DoLs are in the files and that copies are given to the MHA Administrator.
  • Act as a source of advice on clerical matters to staff.
  • To provide an effective and efficient turnaround of work


Personal development, Supervision and Training:

  • Participate in regular support and supervision from line management
  • Continuously develop professional knowledge and expertise, attending and participating in learning and development events, meetings, conferences, and events (as requested/approved by line management) to ensure up to date knowledge relevant to the role
  • Attend and participate in regular team and other meetings, both internal and external

  • The post holder will be expected, at all times, to be familiar and comply with the written policies, procedures and guidelines for good practice, issued by Brainkind
  • Ensure the Health & Safety policy and procedures are adhered to at all times
  • Take personal responsibility for own health and safety and report incidents and potential hazards as necessary.


Experience Required:

  • Qualified to GCSE level or relevant equivalent.  4 or more GCSE’s.
  • Healthcare experience with ability to work with medical records
  • Solid knowledge and expertise within mental health act
  • Must be able to prioritise duties and work under pressure
  • Maintain a clam and professional manner when dealing with People We Support and staff, as well as external agencies
  • Must be willing to cover annual leave and sickness absence in other administration roles where necessary to meet the needs of the business.
