About the Role

We are recruiting caring and committed Support Workers to join our Learning Disability Service in Newbury on a Temporary-to-Permanent basis.

You will provide high-quality, person-centred support to adults with learning disabilities living in their own homes, helping them to enjoy independence, wellbeing and a meaningful life. Your support will focus on building confidence, daily living skills, emotional wellbeing and community participation.



Key Responsibilities

Person-Centred Support

  • Build warm, trusting relationships with service users.
  • Promote confidence, independence, emotional wellbeing and self-esteem.
  • Support individuals to express their needs, make decisions and participate fully in their support planning.
  • Encourage involvement in social, leisure, educational and work activities.
  • Support people to maintain safe, secure and comfortable homes and understand their tenancy rights.
  • Enable people to access community resources, develop social skills and pursue personal interests.

Daily Living & Health Support

  • Assist with daily living tasks, budgeting, organising routines and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
  • Support with personal care, mobility needs, wheelchairs, hoists and specialist equipment.
  • Promote nutrition, exercise, health appointments and wellbeing.
  • Administer and monitor medication in line with policy.
  • Monitor emotional and physical health and report concerns promptly.

Safety, Behaviour & Professional Standards

  • Use positive approaches to support people who may express needs through distressed or challenging behaviour.
  • Follow risk management plans, behaviour support protocols and safeguarding procedures.
  • Support safely and responsibly when working alone in people’s homes.
  • Maintain accurate records, case notes and financial transactions.
  • Contribute to reviews, planning meetings and multi-agency work.

Essential Skills & Qualities

  • Warm, person-centred and respectful approach to supporting people.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work calmly with individuals who may become distressed or display challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Emotional resilience, patience and a non-judgmental attitude.
  • Ability to support physical needs (e.g., wheelchairs, hoists).
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins and bank holidays.

Desirable

  • Experience in learning disability or mental health support.
  • NVQ/Diploma Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care.
  • Driving licence and access to a car.
