About the Role

We are recruiting caring, reliable Extra Care Support Workers to join our Carlisle services on a Temporary-to-Permanent basis.

You will support older adults living in Extra Care Housing to maintain independence, wellbeing and daily living skills within the comfort of their own homes. This includes providing personal care, emotional support, practical assistance and promoting a meaningful, confident and connected life.

Key Responsibilities

Person-Centred Care

  • Build warm, trusting relationships and encourage individuals to express their needs and preferences.
  • Provide personal care sensitively, respectfully and in line with individual care plans.
  • Support daily living activities including meal prep, shopping, laundry, domestic tasks and managing routines.
  • Promote dignity, privacy, independence and wellbeing at all times.

Practical & Emotional Support

  • Encourage service users to build confidence, coping skills and independence.
  • Support budgeting, income maximisation and tenancy responsibilities.
  • Encourage community participation, social inclusion and meaningful activities.
  • Support cultural, spiritual and identity needs.

Health, Safety & Medication

  • Support with medication administration and wellbeing monitoring.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles: nutrition, exercise, stress reduction and wellbeing.
  • Follow risk management plans and report concerns promptly.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and safeguarding situations.

Professional Standards

  • Maintain accurate documentation, records and reports.
  • Work professionally with external agencies, families and other partners.
  • Work safely without direct supervision in service users’ homes.
  • Participate in supervisions, training and ongoing development.


About You

Essential Qualities

  • Kind, patient and able to provide emotional and practical support.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Sensitivity to older people’s needs and dignity.
  • Able to handle conflict, distress or challenging situations calmly.
  • Willing to work flexibly across the rota including evenings, weekends & bank holidays.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting older adults or adults with support needs.
  • Ability to support physical needs, including hoists and wheelchairs.
  • Previous care or support experience.
