About the Role

We are looking for compassionate, motivated Support Workers to join our Floating Support service in Middlesbrough on a Temporary-to-Permanent basis.

You will support adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs who live in their own homes, enabling them to enjoy meaningful lives, develop independence and maintain wellbeing.


This is a varied, community-based role where no two days are the same. You will help people build skills, confidence and social connections while providing practical, emotional and personal care support.


Key Responsibilities

Person-Centred Support

  • Build warm, trusting and respectful relationships with service users.
  • Support self-esteem, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
  • Deliver personal care sensitively and in line with individual needs and preferences.
  • Encourage individuals to express views, make choices and participate in planning their support.
  • Promote independence in:
    • Daily living and personal care
    • Social skills and community participation
    • Using local resources, leisure and education
    • Self-organisation, coping skills and safety

Mental Health & Learning Disability Support

  • Work in a recovery-focused way, using Support Plans, Risk Management Plans and WRAP plans.
  • Use Positive Behaviour Support strategies when supporting individuals who express needs through behaviour.
  • Promote physical and mental wellbeing, healthy lifestyles and regular health checks.
  • Support access to social, leisure, work and culturally appropriate activities.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Administer medication safely and accurately.
  • Monitor wellbeing and report concerns promptly.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and safeguarding concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records, notes and financial transactions.
  • Carry out housing-related tasks and administrative duties supporting independent living.
  • Work independently in people’s homes and collaboratively with families and external professionals.


About You

Essential Skills & Qualities

  • Warm, person-centred and respectful approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to support people with mobility needs, including hoists and wheelchairs (physical fitness required).
  • Resilient, calm and supportive when individuals become distressed or when conflict arises.
  • Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
  • Clean driving licence and access to your own car.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting people with learning disabilities or mental health needs.
  • Knowledge of recovery-focused practice.
  • NVQ/Diploma in Health & Social Care.
