We are looking for motivated, compassionate Support Workers to join our friendly team at Danesfield House in Jarrow, supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism, and non-verbal communication needs in a supported living environment.

About the Role

As a Support Worker, you will provide person-centred care and practical support, empowering individuals to live with dignity, independence and confidence.


You will support people to:

  • Develop independence and daily living skills
    Build social relationships and community connections
    Maintain personal wellbeing and emotional health
    Access activities, education, employment or leisure opportunities
    Make choices and participate in decisions about their lives


This role involves supporting people with varying levels of need, including personal care, mobility support and medication administration where required.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

• Building warm, trusting relationships with the people we support
• Providing person-centred emotional and practical support
• Assisting with personal care, hygiene and daily living activities
• Supporting individuals to access community activities and social opportunities
• Promoting independence, confidence and life skills
• Following individual support plans and positive behaviour support strategies
• Supporting health, nutrition, exercise and wellbeing
• Administering or assisting with prescribed medication in line with policy
• Maintaining accurate care records and documentation
• Working collaboratively with families, professionals and colleagues

You will also help create a safe, inclusive and empowering environment where individuals can thrive.

Experience:


Essential

  • Genuine interest in supporting people with learning disabilities or autism
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins


Desirable

  • Experience in care, support work or social care
  • NVQ Level 2/3 or Diploma in Health & Social Care
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour support or intervention techniques
