About the Role

We are looking for warm, enthusiastic Female Support Workers to join our supported living service in Derby on a Temporary-to-Permanent basis.

You will support adults with learning disabilities, autism and/or mental health needs to live independently, develop skills, and enjoy a fulfilling and valued life.


Your role is centred on building relationships, promoting independence and supporting people to participate fully in their community.


Key Responsibilities

Person-Centred Support

  • Build warm, trusting and supportive relationships with service users and families.
  • Promote self-esteem, emotional health, confidence and independence.
  • Support people to express their views, make choices and be involved in planning their lives.
  • Develop personalised support plans in partnership with service users.
  • Assist with personal care, hygiene, daily living skills and use of mobility equipment (e.g., hoists, wheelchairs).

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

  • Support people with appointments, medication, healthy routines, nutrition and exercise.
  • Monitor wellbeing and report concerns promptly.
  • Use positive approaches when supporting individuals who express needs through challenging behaviour.
  • Follow safeguarding, confidentiality and health & safety procedures.

Community Inclusion & Daily Living

  • Support access to community activities, leisure, education and work opportunities.
  • Encourage independence in budgeting, organising routines and personal safety.
  • Promote meaningful, culturally appropriate and age-appropriate activities.

Professional Practice

  • Maintain accurate records, case notes and financial transactions.
  • Contribute to reviews and support-planning meetings.
  • Work safely without direct supervision in service users’ homes (following training).

About You

Essential Skills & Qualities

  • Warm, person-centred and respectful approach.
  • Confident communicator with good verbal skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and engage meaningfully with service users.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of learning disabilities and positive support approaches.
  • Willingness to work flexibly: evenings, weekends, sleep-ins & public holidays.
  • Physical ability to support mobility needs, including hoists and wheelchairs.
  • Ability to drive the service user’s vehicle (essential).

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care.
  • Experience supporting people with LD, autism, physical/sensory disabilities or challenging behaviour.
